JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Paxon School for Advanced Studies Eagles defeated the Stanton College Preparatory School Blue Devils Friday night at their home field with a final score of 41-12.
Paxon scored their first touchdown within 18 seconds, and by the end of the first quarter held a score of 28-0. Stanton maintained a strong defense throughout the second quarter, with only one touchdown gained by Paxon.
The Blue Devils scored their first touchdown five minutes into the third quarter and tried for a failed two-point conversion. The Eagles also gained their fifth touchdown by the end of the third quarter. With 3.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils were left with one play at the 11-yard line; the timer ran out with a second touchdown, and the game ended.
“I’m really disappointed, I didn’t think this was going to be the result at the beginning of the game,” said senior wide receiver and running back Deacon Taylor. “I think it was a combination of people not knowing their assignments and not calling the right plays on offense.”
The Blue Devils will play the Englewood High Rams next on Sept. 23, and the Eagles will play the Branford Buccaneers the same evening.
